This course is designed to prepare you to meet the requirements of a radon measurement technician. Several of the topics will be re-introduced in later sections to more fully explore their significance to radon measurement. This course presents rudimentary quality assurance and quality control practices, which should be sufficient to meet the needs of a technician. It does NOT qualify testers to analyze their own devices or read and report on continuous radon monitors.

This course prepares you to take an optional National Environmental Health Association-National Radon Proficiency Program certification exam or National Radon Safety Board exam fulfilling the Specialist requirements. The course covers a wide variety of topics, including Radiation Physics; Health Risks; Radon Sources and Behavior; Measurement Protocols, Methods, Techniques and Devices; Radon in Water; QA/QC; Interpretation of Results and Mitigation. The course will prepare you to perform radon measurements using your own equipment, analyze the equipment and report results to clients.

This 4-hour course covers the installation of radon systems in new (primarily residential) construction. Working with EPA texts, details are presented on designing buildings to reduce negative pressure, preparing the site for a passive system, sealing radon out, and installing the vent piping. Details on activating the system with a fan and testing are also included. Finally, resources and suggestions on marketing radon resistant new construction are presented.

This course is designed to help the home inspector or radon professional identify many aspects of a residential radon system that could impact its proper operation. The course is based on EPA's Radon Mitigation Standards with comparisons to ASTMs E2121, and also refers to ASHI's checklist. Numerous inspection challenges are incorporated throughout the course.

Since the responsibility for informing the public about radon, its health threat, and mitigation has fallen so heavily on radon measurement and mitigation professionals, it pays to understand how to encourage "sales" of the radon "product". This class encourages participants to think about the radon message as a product that competes with the buzz of other sales promotions and provides tools to grab attention for radon services.

The agent is a key marketing target for the radon professional.
